How to install Google Camera Port on Android

Since the GCam port is available as an APK, it can be easily installed on supported devices. The only requirement is that your Android device supports the Camera2 API.
Follow the instructions below to install the Google Camera Gcam port on your Android device.

Download the Google Camera (Gcam) Port APK for your Android device.

  • Connect your phone to the PC with a USB cable.
  • Activate MTP mode (file transfer) on your mobile phone.
  • Copy the downloaded GCam APK file to your phone's memory.
  • Disconnect the phone from the PC.
  • Open the file manager application on your Android device.
  • Navigate to the location where the APK file is copied / downloaded.
  • Tap the Google Camera APK file to launch the package installer.
  • On request, give permission to allow the installation of third-party applications.
  • To do this, tap on "Settings" and activate the "Allow from this source" switch.
  • Finally, tap "Install" to install the Google Camera Port on your phone.
After installation, go directly to the application bar and start the application.
Important note: If you are upgrading to a newer version or installing a different port, go to the "Application Information" section of Google Camera in the device settings and first delete the current application data.

How do I export / import XML configuration files?

  1. Download the XML configuration file for the GCam port you are using.
  2. Open the file manager application on your Android device.
  3. Create a new "GCam" folder in the root directory (ie outside of all folders) in your phone's internal memory.
  4. Now create the following folder depending on the version of the port used:
  5. GCam 6.x: Create a new "Configuration" folder in the "GCam" folder.
  6. GCam 7.x: Create a new folder "Configs7" in the folder "GCam".
  7. This is the folder in which the XML configuration file is transferred.
  8. Copy the downloaded XML configuration file to "/ GCam / Configs" or "/ GCam / Configs7" depending on the version used.
  9. Start the Google Camera Port and double-tap the area around the trigger.
  10. The Select Configuration dialog box appears on the screen.
  11. Tap the drop-down menu and select the configuration file you want to load.
  12. Finally, tap the "Restore" button to import the XML configuration file into GCam.

As soon as the configuration is loaded, the camera application is restarted with the specified settings. Sometimes you have to load the configuration twice, but only in a few mods.

How do I save / export an XML configuration file?

Once you have found the optimal settings for the specific Google Camera Port (GCAM) for your Android device, you can save it as an XML file.
You can then release the configuration file in the XDA forum or in the telegram group to help other users.

Save / export configuration XML files to Google Camera Port

To save or export an XML configuration file, open the camera application and the Settings menu. Scroll down and look for the "Save Settings" option. Note that this option can be hidden on some ports in the "Advanced" or "Info" menu.
Simply tap on "Save Settings" and enter a unique name for the configuration file. When you are finished, the file is saved in the "/ GCam / Configuration" folder in the internal memory of your phone.
